Leira

Hello, I'm Leira Sumac.

My work takes place here in the middle world, supporting you in connecting with your inner guidance, moving toward greater wholeness, reclaiming personal power, and releasing what no longer serves you.

I am a certified Depth Hypnosis Practitioner, Applied Shamanic Practitioner, and Hypnotherapist in the Spiritual Counseling Practice of Depth Hypnosis through the Foundation of the Sacred Stream. I practice as a spiritual counselor and am also an ordained minister through the Foundation of the Sacred Stream. My work is grounded in the integrative approach of Depth Hypnosis, which was developed by Isa Gucciardi, PhD, and weaves together hypnotherapy, Buddhism, shamanism, transpersonal psychology, and contemporary therapeutic understanding.

I am certified in Usui Tibetan Reiki Levels I and II and have completed Healing Touch Level I through Healing Touch International.

My path to this work has been shaped by both healthcare and the healing arts. I hold bachelor's degrees in Fine Art, Biology, and Nursing. Over the years I have worked as a chiropractic assistant, surgical assistant, hospital medicine nurse, medical intensive care unit nurse, and operating room nurse. Those experiences taught me to care for people during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives and continue to inform the grounded, compassionate way I approach spiritual counseling today.

I also had the opportunity to spend several years at home raising my son and learning from him.  When he entered Pre-K, I returned to school to study with the Foundation of the Sacred Stream, bringing together my lifelong interests in healing, spirituality, and service through the work I now offer.

My favorite place in St. Louis, my home, is my beloved City Museum. It is beautiful. It is wonderful. You can do some somatic integration and processing, climbing through wire cages, crawling through caves, or sliding down the inside of a huge old lightning-struck sycamore.

Long before I became a spiritual counselor, I spent my days surrounded by books while working at Left Bank Books in St. Louis.  Stories, ideas, poetry, beauty, and the search for meaning and for the sacred have always been part of my life.

I worked at Left Bank during the tenures of the bookstore cats Jamaica and then Spike. Years later, the cat Orleans Tennessee Maple showed up on my kitchen table one early morning, was named by my then-three-year-old son, and was soon adopted by Left Bank Books. He can still be found there greeting visitors today.

Together, these paths have become the foundation of the work I now do.

If you feel this work may be supportive for you, I would be glad to connect with you.
